Keyport, NJ, February 01, 2019 – The popular on-demand film streaming service Kanopy is now available for free at the Keyport Free Public Library in Keyport, NJ. Starting Friday, February 01, 2019, library card holders can access Kanopy and sign up to start streaming films instantly by visiting https://keyportlibrary.kanopy.com/. Films can be streamed from any computer, television, mobile device, or platform by downloading the Kanopy app for iOS, Android, AppleTV, Chromecast, or Roku.

Offering what the New York Times calls “a garden of cinematic delights,” Kanopy showcases more than 30,000 of the world’s best films, including award-winning documentaries, rare and hard-to-find titles, film festival favorites, indie and classic films, and world cinema with collections from Kino Lorber, Music Box Films, Samuel Goldwyn, The Orchard, The Great Courses, PBS and thousands of independent filmmakers.

With the motto of “thoughtful entertainment,” Kanopy provides Keyport Free Public Library patrons with access to films of unique social and cultural value; films that are often difficult or impossible to access elsewhere. Kanopy provides programming that features diversity, with a wide array of foreign language films, films on race, and films on current affairs.

“As a big fan of many films outside of the Hollywood mainstream, I constantly want to recommend weird and interesting films to our patrons, but there is no way that we could possibly carry them all on DVD,” says Keyport librarian Jason Menapace, who is in charge of introducing Kanopy to patrons. “When we first started looking into Kanopy for our library, I was blown away by the selection! Classic cinema, landmark films from the Criterion Collection, foreign films, early silent films, obscure horror movies, offbeat comedies, documentaries on any number of subjects, independent films…Kanopy really offers something for every taste! And that isn’t even getting into their wide selection of educational materials, instructional films, and lessons! You could be watching an early German expressionist film one day, taking a lesson in a foreign language the next, viewing an eye-opening documentary the next, and viewing an award-winning contemporary film from top-flight independent studio like A24 the day after that…and all free of charge courtesy of your local library membership!”

The Kanopy collection includes indie hits like Hunt For the Wilderpeopleand 2 Days in Paris, classic masterpieces like Aguirre, the Wrath of Godand Seven Samurai, and award-winning documentaries like the 2017 Oscar®-nominated I Am Not Your Negro and Sundance Film Festival winner Mother of George.

Kanopy was founded in 2008 by CEO Olivia Humphrey as an educational tool for colleges and universities. More than 5 million Kanopy users stream the most acclaimed movies and documentaries from award-winning filmmakers, and experience the best in independent, classic film, and world cinema.
