  • AARP Foundation Volunteer Tax Preparation at Keyport Library

Starting Wednesday 02/06/2019, Keyport Public Library will have IRS-certified tax preparation volunteers from the AARP Foundation in-house every Wednesday and Thursday morning through 04/11/2019 to assist with preparing and filing your personal (non-business) 2018 tax return completely free of charge.

Please pay close attention to the details to ensure smooth service for all: This site offers NO APPOINTMENTS IN ADVANCE. The list of patrons who will be seen is made same-day, on a first-come, first served basis. The number of patrons that can be seen may vary day-to-day based upon the complexity of returns. The Third Street entrance to the children’s section (downstairs level) of the library will open at 9 am, before the library itself opens. At this point, a list will be made of patrons who will be seen. Anyone who arrives after 9 AM will be added to the list in sequence pending availability. The volunteers will finish for the day by 2:00 pm.

All necessary documents must be assembled in advance and be on-hand with the patron before showing up to the library. IMPORTANT: If all documents are not on-hand, you will be unable to sign up to be seen until you return to the library with all necessary documents. For each taxpayer on your return, it is mandatory to bring:

*Official, state-issued photo ID, eg drivers’ license, non-drivers’ state ID, US passport, green card, etc.
*Social security card. IMPORTANT: you must bring the physical card(s); simply knowing your number is not sufficient, and you will not be able to be seen.
*A copy of last year’s tax return(s), which will greatly expedite the process. Without this copy on hand, there may be a delay in completing the return.
*If you plan to receive your refund via direct deposit, you must bring a blank check from the account to which you would like your refund deposited.
*Any and all relevant income, health insurance, deductions, real estate/property tax, and other tax documents for 2018. For a detailed list of which documents to collect, see https://www.aarp.org/money/taxes/info-01-2011/important-tax-documents.html
