JULY

Saturday 07/01/2017-TBA in 08/2017:

  • SUMMER READING PROGRAM 2017: BUILD A BETTER WORLD
    The Keyport Public Library Summer Reading Program 2017 is open to all Keyport children in grades Pre-K-8th. This year’s theme is “Build a Better World.” Children must have their own library card to participate. Pre-K may participate with the help of an adult reading with them. We have great books to read, and an ice cream party at the end of the summer for all children who complete the program.
    Registration for the program starts Monday, 05/01/2017 and lasts until Friday 06/30/2017! Come in or contact the Library to sign up! Children may pick up their Reading Packets and start reading their books starting on Saturday, 07/01/2017!

  • WEEKLY STORY & CRAFT
    Join us every week for a different seasonal tale and accompanying craft! It’s a great way to instill a love of reading, make friends, and have fun! All ages welcome! 10:45 am

Tue 07/04/2017:

  • LIBRARY CLOSED FOR INDEPENDENCE DAY
    Please be advised that the Keyport Public Library will be closed for the entirety of Tuesday, 07/04/2017, in observance of Independence Day. The library will reopen on Wednesday, 07/05/2017 for the regular operating hours of 10:00 am to 9:00 pm. Please enjoy a happy and safe Fourth of July!

Mon 07/10/2017:

  • READ TO A DOG AT WEEKLY STORY & CRAFT
    Keyport Library is going to the dogs! Join us for a story, a craft, and a real live dog! Lily Comfort Dog, New Jersey’s only trained Comfort Dog, pays us a visit once again! There will be a regularly scheduled story, and then a related craft. During craft time, beginner readers can practice their skills by reading to Lily if they chose. Lily loves stories and tail wagging tutors like Lily help children gain confidence in their reading skills by being a non-judgmental listener. Plus, they’re cute and furry! But attendees don’t need to be beginner readers–all ages welcome!

  • RECREATION STORY HOUR & ECLIPSE THEMED-CRAFT
    Recreation story hour at the Keyport Public Library presents a reading and craft themed in anticipation of the upcoming 2017 All-American Total Solar Eclipse in August. After the reading, students will decorate special eclipse-themed cookies. Additionally, all participants are invited to take home free glasses that allow for safe eclipse viewing for themselves and their family members. 10:30 am

Tue 07/25/2017:

  • MASSAGE & MEDITATION
    Enjoy a relaxing and centering night of massage and meditation. Come at 6:00 to indulge in a one to five minute massage offered by therapist Heather Brady-Miller of Essential Massage & Bodywork for $1 per minute. Then, at 6:30 PM we’ll begin a free guided meditation. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat or towel if you like. All ages welcome!

  • FRIENDS OF THE KEYPORT LIBRARY 2017 ART CONTEST
    Get your paint, pencils, crayons, and imagination ready! We want to see your art on the annual Keyport Public Library ornament! Show us your talent by illustrating this theme: “READING IS MY SUPER POWER!” Submissions will be accepted Saturday 07/29/2017 through Saturday 08/05/2017. The winner will be announced on Saturday, 08/12/2017

  • GUEST SPEAKER ON ASTRONOMY AND SOLAR ECLIPSES
    In preparation for August’s All-American Solar Eclipse, Keyport Public Library will feature a guest speaker (TBD) from the local scientific community who will give a lesson and Q&A session fit for kids and adults about the astronomical science behind solar eclipses.*Time and date of this event are subject to change pending speaker availability.

Mon 08/21/2017:

  • SOLAR ECLIPSE 2017
    Make Keyport Public Library your headquarters for the 2017 All-American Total Solar Eclipse on Monday, August 21, 2017! We are planning a day of science and fun for kids and adults alike to provide a place for our community to learn about what happens during the eclipse, as well as to learn the safe viewing methods as provided by the National Science Teachers Association!A selection of scientific reading materials for children, teens, and adults will be featured throughout the library, with a particular focus on astronomy and the 2017 eclipse specifically.Patrons of all ages will be able to obtain special safe-viewing eclipse glasses* or construct their own eclipse viewers with instruction from library staff, and view the eclipse from our library garden!At 10:45 am, our weekly “read to a dog,” story, and craft will feature The Big Eclipse by Nancy Coffelt, a children’s book which explains the eclipse to young people. Children are invited to explain what they have learned to the visiting comfort dog after the story. During craft time, children will be guided in the construction of their eclipse viewers.All members of our community are invited to take part in safe eclipse viewing at the library. The eclipse is expected to be observable in our region starting at about 1:20 pm, and ending at about 4:00 pm, reaching its maximum eclipse at 2:45 pm (maximum eclipse in our region will be 71% coverage of the sun). Viewers/glasses and all events are completely free of charge.*Eclipse glasses are pending availability

    The Friends of the Keyport Public Library would like to invite you to a Masquerade Soirée on the Bay - A fundraiser for the Keyport Public Library. A night of tempting hors d’oeuvres, tantalizing spirits, & mystery gifts. Don’t forget to wear your mask as you enter and listen to the classical melodies performed by our entertainers – sure to stimulate your sense throughout this enchanted evening. $50 / person…$75 for couples 65 and over. 7:00 pm – 9:30 pm at 42 1st Street in Keyport
